Fast Walking vs Running for Fat Loss
Research shows that brisk walking at 5-6 KPH can be MORE EFFECTIVE than running for sustainable fat loss. Here's why the HT1's walking speed range is scientifically optimized for your goals:
Higher Fat Oxidation Zone
Walking at 4-6 KPH keeps your heart rate in the optimal fat-burning zone (60-70% max HR), where your body primarily uses fat as fuel rather than glycogen.
Longer Sustainable Duration
You can walk for 60-90 minutes daily without exhaustion, burning more total calories than a 20-30 minute intense run. Consistency beats intensity for fat loss.
Muscle Preservation
Running creates high cortisol levels that can break down muscle tissue. Walking maintains lean muscle mass while burning fat, leading to better body composition.
Zero Impact on Joints
Running creates 3-4x body weight impact per step. Walking eliminates joint stress, allowing daily exercise without injury risk or recovery days.
Lower Hunger Response
High-intensity running triggers compensatory eating. Moderate walking doesn't spike hunger hormones, making it easier to maintain a caloric deficit.
Better Long-Term Adherence
90% of people quit intense exercise programs. Walking is enjoyable and sustainable, leading to consistent fat loss over months and years, not just weeks.
The Science: A 70kg person walking at 5.5 KPH for 60 minutes burns approximately 240 calories, with 60-70% from fat. Running the same distance burns similar calories but primarily from glycogen, with higher injury risk and shorter sustainability.
