Fantastic piece of kit for the price

For the price it is a fantastic piece of kit. Exactly what i wanted. Took a bit of time to assemble. I am quite heavy and it seems to be sturdy enough for me.

I wouldn't recommend this bench

I wouldn't recommend this bench. The bars are too narrow to make it comfortable to do bench presses on, the bars are too short, so you can't do incline bench presses, the weight holding hooks don't feel secure or sturdy, especially for heavier weights.

I don't recommend this at all.

York fitness 500 folding barbell bench

Very good quality, sturdy when using the leg curls and also a very sturdy rack for when benching. Recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a home bench.

Same as 45 years ago

All round really good. For legs and bench presses. Bought the same one 45 years ago and so nice to see still going strong

not good

Wobbles all over the place on flat. Even on incline its not completely stable. Can barely get under the bar when its on incline & I don't have the biggest chest. This thing is an accident waiting to happen. Do not buy unless you want a one way ticket to snap city. Pay the extra and buy a decent bench.

Perfect entry level bench that can even cope with a 7ft Olympic Barbell.

More just writing a review for a more recent opinion on it.I brought this bench off a different site as I managed to find a bench, in April, at the height of the COVID pandemic at (although over the odds) was not OTT overpriced like most of the benches out there. At 6ft and 81kg it is slightly on the small size compared to most benches. At the same time though, if you want a gym quality bench then you really need to be prepared to pay upwards of £500.For the price it is a decent quality bench and works for what I need. I've managed to use a 7ft Olympic barbell on it without any issues and have had no problems with sturdyness with loading the barbell with weight. The bench has coped fine when dealing with my body weight and additional 90kg of weight. I have faith that I could safely push it higher and the bench will hold out.Yes, it's a narrow stance and the isn't ideal, but for just over £100 it is an ideal bench to use until the gyms become a lot more manageable to return to.

Seems like a good idea!

Bought this to put in the spare bedroom to go with my York weights, but as soon as I set it up I knew it wasn't any good. You can just about slip under the bar when it's set on the highest incline and as it's not that sturdy it's not fit for purpose really.

well made and sturdy if you are lifting big weight get something else but if you are just starting out just what you need. easy to put together if you have your own spanners as ones that come with it are rubbish. apart from that great bit of kit.

but tightening the bolts every so often keeps it in good working order

Can feel a little flimsy at times, but tightening the bolts every so often keeps it in good working order. Perfect for a home gym beginner, however it's definitely too low to use as a squat rack for those that have asked.

Easy to assemble

For a basic weigh bench it is acceptable, I bought it thinking I would need to ungraded at some point and I was right. The padding on the bench it too thin, the one leg at the front of the bench means that it isn't very stable and there is a fair bit of movement. The other end (we're the barbell rests) is much more stable and feels secure.Easy to assemble, great to be able to fold away just let down by the build quality and the single leg at the front.

I've had this for two years now and it was great for getting me into lifting but it's shaky and the build quality is pretty shabby even for the budget price. Look elsewhere

OK for flat bench presses

I've been using this for a few years now and for the price, I think it's worth it. The bench is a bit wobbly sometimes so be careful not to overload it. This is a design issue as the leg at the front doesn't have a T shape so wobbles a bit. It's not possible to do any inclined bench presses as the bar will touch your neck. Doing legs on this is a bit dangerous due to the aforementioned design issue. As a basic flat bench for bench presses, this can't go wrong.

A good quality and well made weight bench, justifying the slightly higher price than some others of a similar design. Straightforward assembly and convenient folding frame. Ideal for use in the home and probably best suited to those who want to undertake regular exercise without travelling to a gym. Perhaps not suited to heavier body builders who want to undertake a more punishing exercise regime.

Looks good and is sturdy

This bench is just too small. If you had reviews sorted on newest first, then you will see that to be the case for a lot of reviews. If you are over 5ft8" then you will struggle. Looks good and is sturdy, but so disappointed when I got on it. You can't get your head under the weights, to the point of it being dangerous, as sometimes you can find yourself readjusting mid lift. Decent product but just too small. Don't bother!

Love and hate

I was looking for a half decent fold up bench and this ticked all the boxes. it is very sturdy and I have no doubts that it will fall apart with me on it.The only drawback was that it is an absolute nightmare to put together and the tools provided might aswell have been from a toysRus kids tool set.

great if you are short

This is great for someone under 4ft. Apart from the leg end being wobbly it is quite sturdy. It is not for me though as my son is 6ft and can't lay back on it. The barbell rests are way too low. I wondered if I had bought a childs one but no it is for adults. It took a few hours to put together but I had to go out and buy 2 spanner kits which was another expense of £40. There were cheaper spanner kits but they all jumped from 16 to 18 and this bench needs 2 size 17. You also need two other smaller ones of size 13 and 10. It would cost money to send back so I am stuck with it if I can't sell it. Shame as york are a good brand. Had the rests been adjustable and could be raised significantly higher and the leg end rest had a t plate rest on the floor to give stability this woukd have got 5 stars. Just be aware of how short you need to be before buying. Woukd recommend for young teens bedroom.

It is compact and easy to stowaway

Bought this as a gift for my husband who is 6 ft tall, the bench is a bit short. The weights is too plastic and the bars are alittle bit long, so if your doing a biceps curl to shoulder press up using dumbells, i'm a bit wary that I will hit the side of my head. It is compact and easy to stowaway. If you're on the taller side, you have to re-think buying this.
