This is a very sturdy bench, and I love that it doesn’t come with built-in spotters. I replaced an older one, and now I can do a wider range of exercises, like bench rows and bent lateral raises. It’s not ideal for barbell use since you’d need a spotter or separate racks behind you, but I prefer using dumbbells anyway. The bench adjusts up to 90 degrees, and so far, it has handled my weight (110kg) and dumbbells up to 40kg with no issues. I would definitely recommend it.The only slightly odd thing is that the top half of the bench isn’t long enough, so I have to sit lower down or my head ends up floating. That might just be because I’m 6’3".
York really are the experts in home fitness and this bench is yet another great addition to any home set up. I got this to use with my York weights and it is perfect for your basic bench exercises. The quality feels good and the seating is padded but firm enough also. As far as putting it together is concerned, even I was able to do it - albeit with a good bit of thinking time and about 3 hours spare. All tools were provided too which was fantastic. However there were very minor issues but none that would put me off buying this. Firstly, the bottom seat had some kind of ‘grime’ on it, even though it was wrapped brand new. However I was able to clean this off. Secondly, whilst the gap between the back rear and the seat is not enough to to cause an issue when lying flat, if you’re not aligned properly the joint will hurt the base of your spine. Other issues include it’s a little unstable when attempting reverse incline exercises (front of body against the back rest) to the point where it could topple over. It’s also not very ‘long’ so if you’re quite tall you will have problems. I’m 5ft 11 and it’s literally just big enough for me.So this bench is most definitely not perfect, but it is the best you’re going to find for home use and is worth the price paid for it as it’s much more expensive elsewhere.
I've got a minor gripe, but for the money this is hard to beat. I use in a home gym for bench press (load on bench 80-100kg + my 80kg weight), shoulder press, box squats etc.Pros:- Solid, sturdy construction. Feels like it will last. Doesn't move about under me when I'm lifting.- Has wheels (hard to spot in the pics) and a handle under the seat to help move it about- Padding feels as good as any bench in a commercial gymCons:- Could do with more adjustment angles. One in between the completely vertical position and one notch reclined would be perfect for shoulder press, I feel slightly too reclined.Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of seat adjustment and decline, and the flimsiness of the weight holders. Also, that you have to take a pin out and reinsert to adjust the backrest angle (takes a couple of seconds, no more). Worth noting these points if they're relevant to you. They're non-issues for me however.
Just what I needed
Good strong bench adjustable for all positions
Sturdy and heavy duty - worth every penny. Didn't want to spend a fortune on a commercial grade bench, but this is incredible value for money for a home gym.
Really solid bench, good value
Fits easily and easy to move. Sturdyand great bit of kit. Thanks
Perfect bench for me
Worst assembly instruction ever
The holes for the bolts on the front legs are more like slots so they move. It's still usable but I have no idea why it's designed like that. You'd probably find something better for a similar price.
Quality bench
Absolutely amazing and professional bench
OK bench, good build quality, a little short, could be 2" longer but not bad at all.
Great bench for home workouts and is surprisingly lightweight. Feels sturdy and took about 15 mins to put together. Very happy with purchase
A nice bench and I'm using it regularly but it is quite small. I'm 5'7" and it's just OK with care.
Bought as a Christmas present for my nephew. He hasn't contacted me yet so I assume it's OK. It's what he asked for.
Great bench, but tricky and took a long time to assemble - that’s the only downside.
The idea of paying £45 to have a "professional" build for this seemed like a massive waste of money when I bought this, having completed assembling and used it once already, can only think that it would be akin to flushing money down the loo. If you have ever built a Ikea Billy bookcase or Hemnes side table your drastically over-qualified. The tools provided are perfectly acceptable but if one owns a socket set and adjustable wrench the build is ludicrously easy. I would also like to say that I have built this with a broken leg and any person who takes 2 or more hours I would suggest needs to spend less time at the gym and more time at the library. As a product its feels sturdy, I'm 85kg and use dumbbells only at 20kg max a side so am well under the 200kg max weight threshold. It's not very heavy at 14kg but the wheels are a handy touch and make moving it around much easier. I would certainly purchase this again and my only minor gripe is the inability to change the seat pad angle. Speaking of the seat pad it is worth double checking the way you install it as I nearly installed it the wrong way around and it would have left a fairly hefty gap between seat and back rest.
Very easy to put together, delivery was great. The structure is a bit wobbly especially when lifting heavy. Two design flaws are there's not a good nearly upright position, the 90 degree upright position is not good for any exercise imo. The second flaw is the metal protrusion between the seat and back rest. This can be incredibly uncomfortable when doing bench press if you lie in the wrong way.
Was fairly easy and straight forward to assemble. The tricky bit is slotting the bar in for different heights but once in each position its very sturdy and comfortable.
Really sturdy bench. Was very easy to assemble. I don't understand why people are moaning about it being fiddly or taking too long to change incline due to the pin design, literally takes a second (people are just idiots, lazy or both) it's fast and easy to adjust, and the the pin design makes it feel more sturdy and safer to train on. Great purchase.
I purchased this for home use and on reflection its a great product but more expensive than comparable and less well known brands. Took a bit more than expected to put it together. Sure it will last, but on reflection something cheaper and simpler would have also done the job
The bench is easy enough to fit together however the rater flimsy punch-cut "spanners" that come with it aren't that great for tightening the bolts. The job was much easier with my own spanners so I recommend you use them. The bench is comfortable to use and adjusts well from horizontal to 90 degrees vertical. It feels stable at the weights I'm using (60kg + 80kg body mass) and it's now central to my home gym.It can't be folded up for storage so it is a permanent bench but for that you get the extra stability at higher weight. My only grumble is that it cannot do a decline for decline presses etc but it is possible to raise one end on barbell plates but that is not a very safe or satisfactory solution. In general it is a great bench for the price and well worth the investment. I have had this now a year and a quarter too. almost daily use. great reliability
The bench was easy to construct and feels very solid. I'm 6'4", and it's fine for me.My one gripe is the over-complicated pin and hole system for adjusting the seat angle. Getting it aligned to push through the pin when in the most upright position is a fiddle, and for some reason the pin doesn't want to go through at all on the flat position. Probably the tolerances are really small, and mine isn't quite aligned properly.Anyway, as long as I'm not moving it too much during a session, it's a decent bench.
Strong bench, very happy with my purchase would recommend them for a home gym!(only negative is some bolts were missing and didn't fit so had to pop over to Tools Station to get the necessary)
Sturdy bench, and the pads are comfy enough. The design is rather odd on the bottom of the footposts which hold it up, though I wonder if mine is faulty? Amazon made it difficult to even get my first bench, so I decided to make do.There's a slightly larger than I'd like gap between the back rest and the bum rest which is hard metal.
Good all round, bit of give when you're really going for it and small downside is no decline, otherwise good bench.
